Home affordability reached an all-time high in 2010′s last quarter. Unfortunately for home buyers, it’s been a different story since, however. [...] Prior to 2009, the Home Opportunity Index rarely topped 65. The index has remained above 70 ever since. [...] As a home buyer and/or homeowner, should you put your faith in Case-Shiller’s results, or the Home Price Index. Perhaps, the answer is neither. [...] With home prices holding firm and mortgage rates still dropping, home affordability is reaching new heights. [...] With home prices still relatively low and mortgage rates trolling near their all-time best levels, home affordability is extraordinarily high in most U.S. markets. The strength of this month’s Case-Shiller report, however, should be put in context.
